Northwood University Named Among U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 Best Colleges

Recognition comes amid historic fundraising support and investments in campus facilities and academic excellence.

Northwood University is among the best regional universities in the Midwest and the top private schools in the Midwest in U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 Best Colleges rankings, released Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026.

The recognition follows a consequential week at Northwood, as students held the 63rd Northwood University International Auto Show, bringing automotive industry partners and visitors to campus Sept. 18-20. On Sept. 18, alumnus Jim Koons announced a commitment of up to $30 million to support residential facilities, automotive education, scholarships and university growth.

That investment includes one of the largest projects in Northwood’s history: a new academic facility and renovations that will expand space for teaching, industry collaboration and events. The Koons commitment includes $5 million toward the academic project and $10 million to transform Miner and Dubois halls into a first-year residential living and learning community.

“These rankings are the latest testament to the quality of education students receive at Northwood,” said Academic Vice President and Provost Dr. Kristin Stehouwer. “Our faculty challenge students to think critically, apply what they learn and take responsibility for their decisions. Those expectations, paired with meaningful experience beyond the classroom, prepare graduates to lead and adapt throughout their careers.”

Earlier this year, Northwood was also recognized in the 2026 U.S. News Best Online Programs rankings. Its placements included Best Online MBA Programs, Best Online Master’s in Business Programs (Excluding MBA), Best Online Bachelor’s Programs and Best Online Bachelor’s for Veterans.
