Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang 'optimistic' on AI risks, sovereignty and jobs
"How can you create a future that people want to be part of if you're not optimistic?" As artificial intelligence stirs concern and sparks dizzying debates, Jensen Huang, the head of Nvidia, sees the upside. On Tuesday, October 13, the man often called the "Godfather of AI" – because he leads the world's most valuable company, with a $5.47 trillion (about €4.88 trillion) market capitalization – took the stage in Paris at an event hosted by the global chip leader, radiating his trademark exuberance. Among the industry figures gathered for the occasion, some pulled out their smartphones to capture Huang's show. He sported his signature black leather jacket and immaculate gray hair, a whisky glass in hand, making the audience smile with his relaxed style.
"The AI era starting is fantastic for Europe because it's a reset. It's a leapfrog. This is the beginning of AI in Europe," Huang declared – not to mock the continent's late start, but to celebrate new investments. On Tuesday, Nvidia revealed minority stakes in four French start-ups: Doctolib (healthcare), Entalpic (innovative materials), Genesis AI (robotics) and Pigment (business decision support).
