OpenAI’s Codex, ChatGPT Work Reach 10 Million Users as AI Agent Adoption Surges
OpenAI is rapidly expanding the adoption of its artificial intelligence agent products, with strong early demand for its recently launched ChatGPT Work platform as competition with Anthropic intensifies.
The company now has approximately 10 million users across its two flagship AI agent offerings—Codex, its coding assistant, and ChatGPT Work, which handles a broader range of workplace and productivity tasks—according to a Bloomberg News report. The figure represents a doubling of usage since earlier this month, underscoring growing enterprise and developer interest in AI-powered digital assistants.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The milestone highlights the escalating rivalry between OpenAI and Anthropic as both companies race to establish leadership in the emerging AI agent market. While Codex is geared toward software development, ChatGPT Work is designed to automate a wide variety of professional workflows, from research and document creation to task management.
Anthropic has also expanded beyond coding assistants by introducing Cowork, an AI agent platform designed to compete more directly with OpenAI’s workplace-focused offerings. The competition reflects a broader industry shift toward autonomous AI systems capable of performing increasingly complex business tasks with limited human oversight.
The rapid growth in AI agent adoption comes as technology companies invest heavily in tools designed to improve productivity, streamline workflows and deepen enterprise adoption of generative AI.
