Otis, beloved Victoria Park Swan, dies at 19
Otis, one of Victoria Park's best-known swans and a beloved fixture of downtown Kitchener, Ont., has died aged 19.
The City of Kitchener shared the news on social media Saturday, saying Otis died after a "brief but serious illness."
"For many years, Otis has been a cherished part of Victoria Park, bringing joy to countless visitors and helping create special memories for our community," the city said.
The news comes after the city posted on Thursday that Otis had been taken to a veterinarian for a checkup.
Otis was a familiar sight to many residents in the region, often seen with his longtime mate Ophelia.

Ophelia remains at Victoria Park under close observation. The city is asking visitors to give her space.
"We know this news will be difficult for the many people who came to know and care for him," the city said. "Thank you for the kindness and care you've shown Otis over the years."
