Parth meets CM, Tatkare says politics is never stagnant

NCP’s Rajya Sabha MP Parth Pawar Pune: The rift in NCP’s top leadership seems to be widening each passing day. Just after NCP working president Praful Patel and state chief Sunil Tatkare met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis without the knowledge of party chief Sunetra Pawar, her elder son and Rajya Sabha member Parth Pawar met him on Thursday.Amid speculation about Sharad Pawar’s NCP tilting towards NDA, the party’s former state chief Jayant Patil, who also met Fadnavis on Tuesday, conducted another meeting with deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday night. Patil on Friday said his meeting with Shinde was to discuss the disqualification of the president of Urun-Ishwarpur Municipal Council from Sangli district. The series of meetings of members of both NCP groups with the chief minister and deputy chief minister has created a flutter in the state’s politics. On Parth’s meeting with the chief minister, Tatkare on Friday said that he was not aware about it. He added, “Parth is a young leader of our party and he represents NCP in Rajya Sabha. I do not see anything odd in him meeting the chief minister.”The NDA govt is likely to go for a cabinet reshuffle, and the NCP is keen on getting a ministerial berth at the Centre. According to the sources, Patel and Parth are both interested in the ministerial post but there is no consensus in the party. The proximity of NCP (SP) with NDA members has sparked a fresh discussion on a merger possibility between both NCP groups. Tatkare, who earlier had denied any such meetings on the merger, recently changed his stance and said that he was aware of the discussion. The state NCP chief on Friday indicated possible developments in the political scenario of the state when he said that politics is never stagnant.NCP (SP)’s working president and MP Supriya Sule has indicated that the party would consider supporting the delimitation bill in Parliament if 50% Lok Sabha seats are increased across the country. Speaking about the possibility of some MPs from the opposition parties supporting the bill, Tatkare said that changes in political scenario can never be ruled out.“During the last Parliament session, the opposition showed unity and managed to keep 230 votes intact to defeat the bill. However, even before the next session, their votes are already split in TMC, Shiv Sena (UBT) and other parties. The political scenario always keeps changing and nobody knows what lies ahead one and half months from now,” Tatkare said.Get the latest City News and Live updates.
