Quebec-made vehicles hit by Trump's latest trade move

Manufacturer says 2 of its 3-wheel vehicles will be excluded from U.S. market starting Sept. 29

A Quebec-based recreational vehicle manufacturer is among the Canadian companies facing the impact of the latest U.S. trade measures as the Canada-U.S. trade war escalates.

BRP confirmed that its Can-Am Spyder and Canyon three-wheel vehicles, manufactured in Valcourt, Que., will be excluded from the U.S. market starting Sept. 29.

The measure is part of a new round of trade restrictions announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday targeting Canadian goods.

BRP says it expects the immediate financial impact to be limited because the majority of production and shipments for the current season have already been completed.

The move comes as other Quebec manufacturers are being drawn deeper into the trade dispute.

On Monday, Trump threatened to bar Quebec-based Bombardier from selling its aircraft in the United States unless the company manufactures them there.

In a statement, Bombardier cited the thousands of people it employs at more than 20 locations across the United States.

In 2003, Bombardier sold its recreational products division, which became the independent company known as BRP.
