Quebec man threatened to kill PM Mark Carney, promoted hatred: police

45-year-old allegedly made threatening posts on Facebook

A Quebec City man has been arrested after he allegedly threatened Prime Minister Mark Carney on social media.

The RCMP said in a media release on Friday that Ousmane Bah, 45, from Quebec City, has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to a person. He has also been charged with promoting hatred against an identifiable group.

The RCMP says he made the remarks using his Facebook account.

The force says their investigation began in the summer, on July 6. Bah appeared in court in Quebec City on Sept. 24 and will remain in custody at least until his next court appearance, on Oct. 1.

Over the summer, Bah posted a series of paragraphs on his Facebook account. In the posts, he expressed a personal vendetta against the prime minister and made repeated disparaging comments about "whites."

A federal court decision delivered in July detailed how he lost his job working for the Quebec government in March 2025 for misconduct after his employer became concerned about some of his behaviour and statements, which included references to a plot against him involving the prime minister.

Bah subsequently contested his ineligibility for employment insurance payments, but his case was denied.

This is at least the fourth time in recent months that someone has been arrested and accused of making threatening comments toward the prime minister.

Earlier this month, RCMP officers in Alberta arrested a Calgary resident and accused him of threatening to kill Carney, and, in March, the RCMP arrested a Winnipeg man, Jason Paul Rindall, 55, for the same reason.

Another Quebec man, this time a Montrealer named Marc-André Porlier, was also charged in August after he allegedly made death threats against Carney and “all Canadian police officers.”
