Quebec OKs interior renovations at Olympic Stadium

Upgrades include new VIP boxes, premium spaces, Radio-Canada has learned

The government of Quebec has approved plans to modernize the inside of Montreal's Olympic Stadium.

The news, first reported by La Presse, was confirmed by Radio-Canada. The cost of the work remains unknown at this time. Tourism Minister Amélie Dionne is expected to issue a statement on Friday with more details.

According to Radio-Canada, the renovation project for the interior of the iconic stadium includes refurbishing the stands, creating VIP boxes and premium spaces, as well as upgrading the restrooms and food concession stands. The stadium currently has 56,000 seats.

The renovations are expected to be completed by 2028, in time for the stadium's planned reopening.

The long-term goal is to host large-scale shows and sporting events. CF Montréal is particularly interested in moving there, as Major League Soccer will be adopting a winter schedule starting next season.

The team's current home, Stade Saputo, is completely open to the elements.

Meanwhile, work on the stadium roof continues. The $870-million project, approved in early 2024, includes replacing the massive 27,000-square-metre canvas and the roof's technical ring.
