Robinhood to enter Canada's investing market after WonderFi acquisition
Robinhood Markets Inc.’s trading platform and app are coming to Canada after it completed the purchase of the cryptocurrency trading platform WonderFi Technologies Inc. for $250 million.
As part of the deal, both of WonderFi’s main products, Bitbuy and Coinsquare, will fall under the Robinhood brand, while WonderFi will be delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange.
“WonderFi has extensive experience operating regulated crypto platforms that serve beginner and advanced crypto users alike, making it an ideal partner to accelerate Robinhood’s mission in Canada,” Johann Kerbrat, senior vice-president and general manager of Robinhood’s crypto and international divisions, said in a news release.
“We’re pleased to have closed our acquisition and look forward to delivering innovative, user-centric investing products to Canadian customers.”
The deal was first announced in May 2025 and received shareholder approval in July of that year.
Robinhood already has about 240 employees in Canada after the company opened an engineering hub in Toronto in 2024.
