Samsung Electronics has publicly recruited the 9th "C-Lab Outside" to discover startups with growth potential and differentiated capabilities. Through the application held from the 15th to the 26th, 30 companies were selected in eight fields, including artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, content & service, robots, materials and parts, Internet of Things (IoT), mobility, and environmental, social and governance (ESG).
The recruitment of the 9th C Lab Outside, which was held simultaneously in four regions of Seoul, Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Gwangju, targets startups with corporations registered in Korea and investment levels below Series B.
C Lab Outside is a representative open innovation program that supports domestic startups to expand their contact points with Samsung Electronics and explore new business cooperation opportunities. If there is a possibility of business connection among selected start-ups, Samsung Electronics is supporting business meetings and technology verification (PoC) with the relevant business department and seeking specific cooperation measures.
In fact, the number of startups conducting PoC with Samsung Electronics is steadily increasing. Last year, 17 out of 30 C Lab Outside startups, more than half of them, expressed the possibility of collaboration with Samsung Electronics through PoC, and this year's 8th is also working on PoC.
"Configintelligence", selected as the 8th C Lab Outside, is a company specializing in building and synthesizing physical AI data necessary for robot foundation model development and cooperating with Samsung Electronics to secure data used for physical AI development. Based on its own "Human Data Factory," configuration intelligence is building training data so that robots can understand their surroundings and perform tasks like humans.
"As physical AI technology advances, the importance of large-scale high-quality data to support it is also growing," said Seo Min-joon, CEO of Configintelligence. "We were able to secure the data construction experience required in actual industrial sites by cooperating with Samsung Electronics through Crab Outside and further expand the possibility of using the technology."
'Exarion', the 8th C Lab Outside startup, is a deep technology company that develops realistic 3D audio and AI image processing semiconductor IP and is currently discussing business cooperation plans and PoC with Samsung Electronics. Exarion is preparing to enter the global market by pursuing a listing on Nasdaq based on its own technology.
The 8th Gyeongbuk startup 'Impact AI' is a company specializing in AI-based demand prediction and carried out a project with Samsung Electronics to upgrade the demand prediction model and verify its applicability in the actual business environment. Impact AI is continuing its cooperation to increase the accuracy of product sales by focusing on Samsung Electronics' online sales channels this year.
C Lab Outside operates a variety of support programs to help start-ups strengthen their technology and business capabilities and expand into global markets. Samsung Electronics is providing a consulting program that utilizes the capabilities of executives and employees and internal organizations to solve various problems such as technology, products, organizational operation, and marketing that start-ups face in the process of growth.
It also supports participation in global exhibitions such as CES, the world's largest consumer electronics fair, and Viva Tech, Europe's largest startup fair, providing opportunities to meet overseas customers, investors, and partners, and helping them enter overseas markets and promote promotional activities.
In addition, it supports the growth of startups through various benefits such as "business subsidies of up to 100 million won without acquiring stakes," "dedicated work space," and "free transfer or right to use patents owned by Samsung Electronics."
Lee Byung-chul, managing director of Samsung Electronics' Creative Development Center, said, "In startups, opportunities to verify and expand them are as important as technology," adding, "Samsung Electronics will support promising domestic startups to explore various opportunities for collaboration and move toward a larger market through C Lab Outside."
