Saudi Arabia suffers another strike at Riyadh airport

Authorities in Saudi Arabia say one person has been killed and 11 injured after a second strike in two days on the international airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh. The Houthi rebels in Yemen say they were behind the strike.

The strike on Sunday came after an attack at the same airport on the previous day, which authorities say killed 12 people and injured more than 300.

Security camera footage believed to have been filmed during the first attack shows smoke rising after an explosion as passengers were lined up. It also shows the ceiling collapsing and people running in panic.

The Houthis issued a statement on Sunday saying they struck the airport in Riyadh in retaliation for air strikes by Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis said they also carried out attacks on another international airport in Saudi Arabia and facilities of a state-run oil company. They are warning that flights to Saudi Arabia are not safe, apart from those to the airports and airspace of the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

Iran's state-run media reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi talked over the phone with his Saudi Arabian counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on Sunday.

Araghchi reportedly said Iran is ready to provide necessary support to promote dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Saudi Arabia is expected to react sharply to the series of attacks on the airport. There are concerns that tensions may rise further.
