Search efforts underway for missing swimmer at Oka provincial park
The man was seen going underwater but he did not resurface, police said
A search is underway in the Lake of Two Mountains at Oka provincial park for a missing swimmer.
Police said emergency services were called to the park, roughly 60 kilometres northwest of Montreal, just before 4 p.m. Sunday after getting reports two swimmers were in distress.
Sureté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Elizabeth Marquis said the pair, a man and a woman, were struggling after going into the water together and ending up in a deep part of the lake.
The woman was rescued by two people in a boat but the man disappeared underwater and did not resurface, Marquis said.
An ambulance was called to the site for the woman, but Marquis was unable to say whether she required treatment in hospital.
The SQ along with the Canadian Coast Guard and Montreal police are searching the waters for the missing man.
Officers and police cadets are also searching along the shores of the lake. Marquis said the beach was evacuated and SQ divers will be called in to assist on Monday, if needed.
