Severe thunderstorm watch, tornado risk issued for much of southern Quebec
The Montreal area may be hit by heavy rain, strong wind gusts and hail on Tuesday
Much of southern Quebec is under a weather warning for this afternoon.
Environment Canada has issued a yellow watch for a severe thunderstorm for the island of Montreal, with conditions considered to be "favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain."
There is also a risk of a tornado, the weather agency said.
The humidex is expected to reach 42 degrees on Tuesday.
Western Quebec is also under a severe thunderstorm watch for Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Risks include a tornado, wind, hail and heavy rain along with lightning.
A tornado watch or warning would come if the possibility of a tornado increases.
Heat warnings and advisories are also in effect across other parts of Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.
Officials are urging people to stay hydrated, to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and to check on older people, or anyone else who might be vulnerable to the heat.
