Sports world praying for ESPN's Holly Rowe following heartbreaking news

Longtime ESPN commentator Holly Rowe shared sad news this week, announcing that her mother, Diane Buck Rowe-Gandre, has died.

Rowe made a post early Monday morning on social media revealing the news.

"Our beautiful Mother passed away peacefully tonight. Diane Buck Rowe-Gandre was elegant, smart and strong," Rowe said. "I told her a few days ago that all the flags in America were at half mast for her. I know Dolly will forgive this fib and they can have a good hoot about it on the other side.

"So grateful for my siblings as we navigated the last few days together. Team Rowe is something special."

Rowe, who has been with ESPN in a full-time role since 1998, encouraged those who are able to spend time with their mom while they still can.

"Her legacy will be the incredible service she gave to so many in the mental health, counseling realm," Rowe said. "If your Mom is still living, give her a call or hug today. We really thought we had more time, you are lucky if you do."

Several people in the sports world commented on Rowe's post offering prayers and positive thoughts.

"Sending my love 💞💞," WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark said.

ESPN's Laura Rutledge added, "So sorry. Praying for you ❤️"

WNBA legend and basketball commentator Candace Parker added, "Love you Holly ❤️"

Holly Rowe covers some of the biggest events in sports for ESPN, including ABC Saturday Night Football, the NCAA Women's Final Four, the NCAA Women's College World Series, the NCAA indoor and beach volleyball national championships and the WNBA.

She won the 2022 Sports Emmy for Outstanding Personality/Reporter and was the 2022 recipient of the Mel Greenberg National Media Award from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
