St. Clair Catholic makes donation to Canadian Food for Children
St. Clair Catholic District School Board is supporting students in developing countries, while finding a new home for surplus furniture and books.
The items were donated to Canadian Food for Children – Chatham-Kent (CFFC-CK) and will be shipped to schools in Honduras.
“It is part of our Catholic identity to care for one another and help when we are in a position to give back,” Lisa Demers, the board’s chief executive and chief education officer, said in a release. “We are grateful these educational resources will find a new purpose in classrooms around the world, supporting students and enhancing their learning environments.”
CFFC-CK was formed in 1997 and has been collecting and sending food, clothing, medical and school supplies and other needed items to the main warehouse in Mississauga.
Donations are then loaded into shipping containers and trucked to Halifax, for shipment to Africa, and the Port of Miami, for shipment to Central and South America.
CFFC-CK volunteers have supported missions in such countries as Tanzania, Sierra Leone, El Salvador and Zambia.
Dr. Andrew Simone of Toronto, and his wife Joan, in response to a request from Mother Teresa, founded Canadian Food for Children in Canada in 1981.
