Suspect facing multiple charges of arson following RCMP investigation
The Wood Buffalo RCMP, in a release shared this afternoon, have charged a suspect who was allegedly involved in a string of arsons cases that took place across the city.
On Sept. 19, multiple residents woke up to find that their possessions were set ablaze while they slept.
Alana Mouland was one of those residents. She said that she lost her favourite rocking chair to the fire and fears for her family's safety, living downtown.
The series of offences prompted an investigation by the RCMP, who after obtaining video footage, sought the public's assistance in identifying the suspect.
Police said that on Sept. 27 they received information from a resident who was able to identify the suspect based on the clothing worn in the images released by the RCMP.
Following that, the RCMP was able to link the identified suspect with an arson that occurred in Fort McKay in May.
Chelsea L'Hommecourt, 36, was arrested on Sept. 28 and is being charged with three counts of arson and theft of a vehicle.
L'Hommecourt is currently being held in custody and is set to appear in court today.
