Taiwan’s ITRI hosts tech event in UK
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Industrial Technology Research Institute marked the first anniversary of its UK office at its Tech Day in London on Tuesday.
The event featured panels on semiconductors, advanced materials, AI infrastructure, and space, drawing over 100 industry leaders, per CNA. Representatives from Innovate UK, Airbus, and the Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult were at the event.
Speakers highlighted the complementarity between Taiwan’s manufacturing strength and the UK’s expertise in chip design, compound semiconductors and deep-tech research.
Jalal Bagherli, co-chair of the UK Semiconductor Advisory Committee under the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, said Taiwan leads chip manufacturing. At the same time, the UK is strong in architecture design and materials science. He added that both sides have already launched talent exchange programs.
Taiwan’s Representative to the UK Yao Chin-hsiang (姚金祥) said ITRI can serve as a bridge for cooperation in R&D, industry and talent development. He called for deeper collaboration in supply chain resilience, commercialization and net-zero and digital transformation technologies.
ITRI President Chang Pei-jen (張培仁) said priority areas include AI, semiconductors, biotechnology and net-zero technologies, along with cooperation in unmanned systems that combine AI and robotics. He said the London office is intended for long-term engagement.
