'The Daily Show' host says Melania Trump's speech was written by ChatGPT

"The Daily Show" is taking shots at first lady Melania Trump's speech during a recent White House event.

The first lady honored student winners of the inaugural Presidential AI Challenge National Champion Awards on Tuesday, June 9, which President Donald Trump launched in the fall. Wearing a charcoal pinstriped suit, Melania Trump spoke to the student "innovators" about artificial intelligence inspiring the next generation.

"Today is about opening doors," the Slovenian former model read. "When the doors open, passions flow, courage blossoms, and dreams are realized. AI inspires. Use this chapter of your life to sail away with your dreams."

"The Daily Show" host Desi Lydic quipped that Melania Trump's speech sounded more than just inspired by machine learning.

"Melania was so excited about AI, she even did an impression of it," the comedian said, before imitating the first lady with a faux Eastern European accent: "Sail away to the chapter of your life on the rocket ship of your courage as you blossom into the stars."

Lydic continued, "What was the prompt to write that speech?" She continued the imitation: "ChatGPT, give me metaphor. No. Give me all metaphors."

USA TODAY has reached out to the White House for comment.

Melania Trump also praised AI for "extending the conceptual in ways never dreamed of before" in various industries, including in medicine, entertainment and the military.

"AI will serve as the underpinning of every business sector in our nation. Robots hold steady hands in the operating room. Movie characters, scripts, fashion, music, art, the entire ecosystem, all with AI," she said. "The shift from soldiers to machines is already underway. Autonomous helicopters, swarming drones, fighterless jets, and autonomous bombers are on the way. The robots are here."

The first lady is also a fan of robotics. In March, Melania Trump strutted next to a humanoid robot during a White House summit with first ladies from 45 other countries.

Lydic joked that Melania Trump has "been into dystopian technology for a while now."

"The robots are here, asking you to join us – I mean them. Them," she said, mock stammering. "Delete previous sentence."

The AI challenge included over 20,000 K-12 students from all 50 states who submitted projects, with six winners recognized for their work developing AI solutions in healthcare, public safety and criminal investigations.
