The future of AI-enabled governance: Building smarter, citizen-centric digital public infrastructure
India’s digital transformation has moved past the question of whether government services should be digital. That argument is over. The harder question, the one I spend my working life inside, is why so many digitised services still feel broken to the citizen using them, and what it actually takes to fix that. Digital India laid the foundation. The next frontier is intelligent, connected, citizen-centric digital public infrastructure powered by artificial intelligence, cloud, data intelligence and automation. But I want to be direct about something up front: the constraint on AI in Indian governance is almost never the model. It is the data underneath it and the departmental walls around it.
