The Indian government has warned its citizens of the "deadly dangers" of joining the Russian military
The Indian government strongly advised its citizens against traveling to Russia to join the army, warning of the "deadly dangers" they would face. This was reported by the newspaper The Hindu.
The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it continues to receive reports of citizens enlisting in the Russian army, despite numerous appeals and warnings.
"Over the past two years, the government has repeatedly emphasized the risks and dangers associated with such a course of action, and has periodically advised Indian citizens to exercise caution when seeking employment opportunities abroad and not to fall for job offers from unverified individuals," the statement said.
The Indian government added that this is a "dangerous path." It emphasized that it continues to work with Moscow to secure the release of Indian citizens serving in the Russian military.
Officials noted that this alarming trend continues, as many people in India fall for what they consider to be "attractive" job offers, only to be misled by recruiters.
India is officially calling for a ceasefire, dialogue, and a diplomatic resolution to the war between Russia and Ukraine, while refraining from directly condemning the Kremlin and maintaining relations with both sides. At the same time, India is one of the largest buyers Russian energy resources after the outbreak of the major war.
India reported "numerous cases" in which citizens voluntarily joined the Russian armed forces, believing that after receiving monetary compensation, they would be able to ask the Indian government to discharge them from service.
The country's government also warned that recruitment services were offered not only by official bodies of the Russian armed forces, but also by a number of "non-public organizations, including volunteer groups," and that Indian citizens were left virtually unprotected after accepting such unofficial offers.
