The Lazio Region is in New York for Smau, a center for startups and innovation.
The Lazio Region's institutional mission to New York officially begins. The delegation to the United States is led by President Francesco Rocca, accompanied by Vice President and Councilor for Economic Development Roberta Angelilli. The initiative is part of SMAU – Italy Restartsup in New York, scheduled for June 10-12, the leading international trade fair for the Italian innovation ecosystem. Following its European stops, the event, organized in collaboration with ITA (Italian Trade Agency), arrives in the US for the first time with the aim of fostering connections between startups, businesses, investors, and institutions from the two countries. The mission of the Lazio Region – through its in-house company Lazio Innova – is part of the broader strategic relationship between Italy and the United States and aims to strengthen cooperation in the fields of technological innovation, startups, research, and culture through a series of meetings with institutional, economic, and academic partners. Delegations from Emilia-Romagna and Friuli Venezia Giulia will also participate in the event. Furthermore, 33 Italian startups are involved, along with large international companies, investment funds, accelerators, universities, and research centers.
The program includes institutional meetings with US stakeholders, networking sessions, and B2B roundtables, as well as in-depth discussions on artificial intelligence, digitalization, sustainability, and public-private partnership models. The Lazio Region's agenda also includes initiatives dedicated to health and social inclusion, with a particular focus on policies for disability, autism, and community welfare. The delegation led by President Rocca will meet with the leaders of NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest public healthcare system in the United States, and Helen Arteaga, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, responsible for coordinating the city's policies on healthcare, mental health, social services, homelessness, and community development, to discuss best practices and potential forms of institutional collaboration. A lunch with the Italian Representatives Group (GEI) and opportunities to engage with Italian researchers and academics working in the United States are also planned. On Wednesday, June 10, at 6:00 PM, the Consulate General of Italy in New York will host a press briefing dedicated to the institutional visit. Following this, the Consulate will host a networking cocktail party that will officially open Smau – Italy Restartsup in New York.
