The New Mediterranean of Artificial Intelligence
What are the coordinates that situate the present day? We are in the time of the information revolution. We are in the age of artificial intelligence.
These new instruments have the potential to be present everywhere – and strive to expand even further – becoming highly invasive.
The good or bad use of such a powerful tool as artificial intelligence will have many consequences. Perhaps we are not yet fully aware of the profound impact it will have.
It follows, therefore, that artificial intelligence is a significant challenge for modern man. Appropriate attitudes must be adopted to meet it.
The great potential of artificial intelligence can lead many unsuspecting young people to be very gullible, to believe that it will always provide them with correct information.
However, artificial intelligence sometimes produces false and absurd results. This is known as AI hallucinations.
The problem is that artificial intelligence isn’t intelligent; it’s not aware of anything, it doesn’t know that it knows anything, it lacks common sense. In other words, it’s intellectually blind. It only provides the result generated by an algorithm. The outcome is merely a combination of data, obtained according to how it was programmed.
Furthermore, there isn’t just one type of artificial intelligence. There are very different kinds. For example, one is programmed according to anti-abortion criteria, and another, very different one, is pro-abortion.
But there’s much more. With artificial intelligence, it’s almost impossible not to be deceived, for example, by someone who, with fraudulent intent, has perfectly imitated the voice of a family member, etc. Examples could be multiplied indefinitely. And this danger is growing every day.
In short, while artificial intelligence is an interesting tool and a scientific advancement, it can very easily lead us astray. Moreover, this can happen in important financial, economic, political, family, professional, and other matters.
In short, the existence of artificial intelligence is something that increasingly demands the following attitude: a strong critical sense, so as not to be deceived by things that have a very strong appearance of truth.
Artificial intelligence will have a staggering social consequence: in just a few years, countless jobs will be lost because so many employees will become redundant.
This significant social impact should lead young people to adopt the following attitude: to be successful, to put great effort and responsibility into their professional training, if they want to avoid very unfortunate situations. They must be very responsible students. They must strive to be highly prepared, with all the effort that entails.
To meet the challenge of artificial intelligence, we must strive for a significant level of maturity. This cannot be achieved without a solid foundation in the humanities.
The fact that artificial intelligence lacks consciousness implies that it lacks any ethical awareness. Thus, if it were used as the most cruel weapon of destruction, because it had been programmed to do so, that is precisely what it would do, inflexibly, without any mercy.
Artificial intelligence therefore requires an attitude, consisting of people cultivating a good foundation of ethical principles.
We can therefore conclude that artificial intelligence presents a new challenge, one that requires a corresponding set of attitudes. Specifically, it demands a high level of accuracy, dedication, responsibility, and professional preparation; well-developed critical thinking and common sense; the ability to think critically; and a solid ethical and humanistic foundation.
In short, artificial intelligence implies that, in a very special and urgent way, we must strive to achieve human, intellectual, ethical, and religious maturity. This, in turn, represents a new Mediterranean for many.
