Tornado warning issued for Pembroke area: Environment Canada
The warning is in effect for Petawawa, Pembroke and Cobden.
Environment Canada issued a red warning for a possible tornado in the Pembroke area just after 3:40 p.m. Monday.
Westmeath Provincial Park, Westmeath, Beachburg and the Ottawa River Provincial Park are expected to be in the storm's path, said Environment Canada.
Meteorologists are tracking a "severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado," with damaging winds, large hail and intense rainfall also a possibility, the statement said.
"This is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately in a basement, interior room, or a sturdy shelter when threatening weather approaches."
The agency also said it's best to lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris, if no shelter is available.
Tornado warnings are issued when a thunderstorm is producing or is likely to produce a tornado.
