Tornado warning lifted for area west of Cornwall, Ont.
Alert was only briefly in place before being lifted
Environment Canada has lifted a tornado warning that was briefly in place on Thursday afternoon for an area west of Cornwall, Ont.
Just before 4 p.m., the agency said its meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm that was possibly producing a tornado.
A half hour later, the warning was lifted.
Communities covered by the warning included Winchester, Newington, Morrisburg, and Long Sault.
Watches mean a tornado is possible. Warnings mean one is happening or seen as likely to happen.
Precautions around a tornado alert include getting to a basement, or a ground-floor room away from windows, or under a heavy table or desk, or a ditch if outside.
