An Environment Canada tornado watch issued for some parts of Alberta located west and north of Edmonton Tuesday afternoon has been cancelled.

The watch stated that "significant damage or destruction to infrastructure, homes and the natural environment is possible."

It was in effect for a wide area, including Boyle, Drayton Valley, Yellowhead County, Woodlands County, Spruce Grove and Wetaskiwin County. It was cancelled after 8 p.m.

As of 7:15 p.m., an Alberta Emergency Alert was issued for the area of the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River near Chisholm and Cross Lake. Municipalities under the watch include Athabasca, Clyde and Westlock.

Environment Canada also issued an orange-level severe thunderstorm watch for Edmonton. That storm blew through the city in the evening. It follows several other storms that have felled trees, flooded municipal facilities and caused power outages.
