Trump announces 'Super Intelligence Force'

US President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a task force to coordinate the United States' policies on artificial intelligence. He has dubbed the organization the "Super Intelligence Force."

Trump made the announcement on his social media platform on Sunday, a move that comes amid growing discussions on the safety of AI.

The name of the task force reflects his administration's initiative to replace references to "Artificial Intelligence," or AI, with "Super Intelligence," or SI.

Trump says the team will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, who oversees intelligence agencies such as the CIA, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson and other officials.

Trump says it will coordinate the federal government's engagement with organizations such as public interest groups, infrastructure providers and AI companies, and report to the president and the Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles.

Trump says, "The Super Intelligence Force is tasked with coordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence," and "will protect the interests, and improve the lives, of all Americans."

Trump said last month he would create the "AI Force" and appoint someone to lead it in the near future. But after changing the term from AI to SI, the new organization is believed to have ultimately been named using the SI designation.
