Two arrested in counter

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences after a major police swoop in Manchester's Northern Quarter.

The pair were held in Newton Street at 14:45 BST on Sunday as part of an ongoing operation. They remain in custody.

The operation was led by the Metropolitan Police and backed up by officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

A Counter Terrorism Policing London spokesperson said: "Both males were arrested under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

"The operation was led by Counter Terrorism Policing London, working closely with Counter Terrorism Policing North West and Greater Manchester Police."

They added: "At this time, there is no information to suggest any wider threat to the public."
