US ambassador to Greece resigns amid allegations
The White House said on Tuesday that it asked its ambassador to Greece to resign. Kimberly Guilfoyle has faced growing questions over allegations of misconduct.
Guilfoyle later posted on social media that she is stepping down. She said serving as envoy had been the "honor of a lifetime."
The announcement follows reports of alleged misconduct before her appointment.
The Wall Street Journal said she asked a donor to President Donald Trump for 100,000 dollars in exchange for help from the administration. She was also reportedly under investigation for accepting inappropriate gifts from a Greek businessman.
Guilfoyle, who has denied the allegations, is the former fiancee of Trump's eldest son. The president was asked by reporters on Tuesday about the allegations against her.
He said, "She was doing a good job, but we didn't like what we were reading."
The New York Times said the White House's quick response shows Trump is willing to cut ties with anyone who becomes a "liability."
