Vancouver police hold news conference in wake of high-profile officer's arrest

Kal Dosanjh charged with theft, fraud and breach of trust offences dating back to 2017

Vancouver police have scheduled a news conference on Friday to announce charges in "a 2.5-year covert investigation."

Speakers will include Vancouver Police Chief Steve Rai along with Supt. Mike Ritchie, who led the investigation.

CBC News will carry the news conference live at 10 a.m. PT.

Police are expected to face questions about the arrest of high-profile Vancouver police officer Kal Dosanjh, who was arrested on Thursday.

As CBC News first reported, Dosanjh is facing multiple charges of fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000, dating back to 2017.

According to court documents, some charges relate to alleged fraud and stealing from investors of multiple property development projects, while others allege fraud and theft from the KidsPlay Youth Foundation, a charity that Dosanjh founded in 2015.

He is also charged with breach of trust.

In a statement, Dosanjh's law firm Alliance Lawyers said, "Mr. Dosanjh has committed no crime and is innocent of any wrongdoing."

None of the charges have been tested in court.
