Vehicle incident shuts Trans-Canada Highway in Rogers Pass

A vehicle incident has shut access both ways on the Trans-Canada Highway through Rogers Pass, holding up long lines of traffic.

Dozens of vehicles could be seen waiting westbound along Highway 1 at the Rogers Pass summit since at least 5:30 p.m. Pacific time Friday evening, Aug. 7, while DriveBC reports the route is closed until further notice.

In the eastbound lanes snaking up to the summit, hundreds of vehicles were shown by video backed up well past the Illecillewaet parking lots, farther west toward Loop Brook.

An assessment is in progress and motorists should watch for traffic control, it added. The next DriveBC update is expected at 10 p.m.

Washrooms are available at the Illecillewaet parking lots and Rogers Pass summit. The summit parking lot also has water refill stations.
