Water pipes fixed, but some homes still cut off

Repairs to two burst pipes that left thousands of people without water have been completed, Anglian Water says.

On Thursday, 36,000 customers in Scunthorpe and the surrounding area were left with no water or low pressure after the flow of water into a local storage reservoir stopped.

Anglian Water said 1,800 customers in Kirton in Lindsey were still without water on Friday morning.

A spokesperson said: "We are working as quickly as possible to get the pumps restarted and get those customers back on. Since last night we have been delivering bottled water to those customers still off water."

The two burst pipes led to a number of schools and businesses closing for the day.

Kirton Lindsey Primary Academy remained shut due to "ongoing issues with the water supply".

A collection point for bottled water was set up at Scunthorpe United's stadium, but some customers reported queuing for up to two hours.

The Anglian Water spokesperson apologised to customers.

"We'd like to thank our customers in the Scunthorpe area for bearing with us while we get things back to normal," they added.

The company said it could take "little bit longer" for some supplies to return to normal and advised people that if water appeared cloudy or discoloured, it was safe to drink and use.
