Nearly two decade ago, the United Kingdom-based firm Backops Limited hit the headlines in India after it surfaced in public discussion for alleged links with Congress' Rahul Gandhi. Fast forward July 29, 2026- the now dissolved company has once again stirred up a political storm following Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey's charges.

Dubey has alleged that a Member of Parliament was associated with the company-established in 2003, but failed to disclose it in election affidavit.

Here's all the you need to know about Backops Limited.

According to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's claims, the firm called BACKOPS Limited UK was registered on August 21, 2003. Its registered address is 2 Frognal Way, London. The MP further said that the company had two directors namely Lovegrove and McKnight. It was established as a business support/consultancy firm with reporteded Company number 04874597.

The company has come under political scrutiny after official records and subsequent media reports linked it to Rahul Gandhi's early business career.

According to the official Congress website, Rahul Gandhi returned to India after working with the London-based consulting firm Monitor Group and founded Backops Services Private Limited in Mumbai, where he served as a director. While this publicly acknowledges his association with the Indian company, the current political controversy centres on Backops Limited, a UK-registered entity.

According to multiple media reports citing filings made with the UK company registry, Rahul Gandhi and Ulrik McKnight were the founding directors of Backops Limited. As of June 2005, Gandhi reportedly held a 65% stake in the company, while McKnight owned the remaining 35%. The company was dissolved in February 2009.
