Woman dead following shooting in downtown Toronto: Toronto police
Toronto police say a woman is dead after a shooting at an apartment building in the city's downtown core Saturday morning.
In a post to social media, Toronto police said they were called for a shooting in the Jarvis Street and Dundas Street area at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Officers found a woman who had been shot inside an apartment building unit. In an update Saturday morning, Toronto police said the victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Toronto paramedics told CBC Toronto they transported an adult with critical, life-threatening injuries to hospital.
Speaking to reporters Saturday, Insp. Dan Pravica said the woman was pronounced dead in hospital. He said the incident is being investigated as a homicide.
Pravica added investigators are working on locating and notifying next of kin and, therefore, Toronto police would not be identifying the victim at this time.
"I do not have any suspect information that I can share with you at this time, although I can confirm the suspect was arrested a short while ago and there is no threat to public safety," he said. "We are still appealing to the public's help."
"It's a sad and unfortunate circumstance, tragic, as a matter of fact," Pravica added.
Toronto police is asking anyone with information to contact them.
