Xi leaves US after summit with Trump

Chinese President Xi Jinping has wrapped up a three-day visit to the United States, during which he held his second summit of the year with President Donald Trump.

Xi left a US military base near Washington on Friday after meeting with Trump earlier in the day for tea at the White House.

Trump said: "I think we've made tremendous strides. We've made great strides. Very positive for both countries."

Xi said, "Our visit was very successful, and we are very satisfied."

Trump later posted on social media that the two will meet again in November in China and in the US in December for the Group of 20 summit.

The leaders discussed a variety of topics in the summit at the Oval Office on Thursday.

On economy and trade, the US side announced before the summit that the two countries have agreed to extend their trade truce for two months. It had been set to expire on November 10. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told CNBC on Friday that they have made "progress" reaching an agreement in some areas and will release details on Monday.

The Chinese side said Xi hopes the US will uphold the "correct" view on opposing "Taiwan independence." Trump did not comment on the Taiwan issue. US Ambassador to China David Perdue told Fox News on Friday that Trump "echoed" the US position. He said they "don't support independence" but also "don't support coercion."
