Xi slams violations of sovereignty in BRICS speech
Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed opposition to any violation of sovereignty at a summit of the BRICS group of emerging economies, in what appears to be a veiled warning to the United States and other countries concerning the situation surrounding Iran.
Xi made the remark during his speech at the meeting, which opened in India on Saturday.
China's foreign ministry quoted Xi as saying that the Global South is rapidly growing in strength, and the trend toward a multipolar world is unstoppable.
According to the ministry, Xi added that meanwhile, countercurrents of unilateralism and power politics are surging, multilateralism and the international order are coming under strain.
Xi said that BRICS countries should reject violations of other countries' sovereignty and interference in their internal affairs, and that China will work with fellow BRICS members to play a due role in bringing peace and tranquility to the Middle East.
