1 dead, 1 hospitalized after 2-vehicle crash in Severn: OPP
Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of driver going wrong way on Highway 11
A person has died following a two-vehicle crash that injured another driver in Severn, north of Barrie, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Officers responded to the area of Highway 11 northbound, near South Sparrow Lake and Goldstein roads, shortly before 4 a.m. for reports of a driver going the wrong way, OPP said in a news release Saturday evening.
A pickup truck and an SUV collided, resulting in one driver being pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police are withholding the identity of the person who died until next of kin are notified, the release said.
A portion of Highway 11 northbound was closed in both directions for several hours for the investigation but has since reopened, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
