A former congressional aide accused of providing business convenience to healthcare startups and accepting bribes worth 95 million won has been put on trial in custody.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 1 (Chief Prosecutor's Office) announced on the 30th that it has arrested and charged a 46-year-old former aide to Baek Jong-heon, a lawmaker of the People's Power, on bribery and other charges. B (39), the CEO of a healthcare start-up who bribed A, was also arrested and charged with embezzlement and bribery.

According to the prosecution, B embezzled 900 million won of company funds and handed over 95 million won of them to A by registering his family and acquaintances as false employees at the company he runs. In return, A had a government agency use B's company's program or secretly informed B of the progress of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's investigation into B's company.

B is also accused of receiving about 440 million won in subsidies by submitting a false plan to a project ordered by a public institution. Mr. A is also accused of falsely hiring his acquaintance, Mr. C, as a secretary in the National Assembly's office and receiving 33 million won in salary from the National Assembly. The prosecution also indicted the acquaintance without detention on charges of fraud.
