U.S. Sen. Ruben Gallego, an Arizona Democrat and former marine, says he is concerned by American rhetoric denigrating Canada's military. On a visit to Ottawa, he said rhetoric from Trump officials has been disrespectful and risks compromising work by American allies to keep the United States safe. His comments came a day after U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted about a Canadian cadet program. (Sept. 1, 2026)
