Artificial intelligence democratises research, transforms education: Speakers

Artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed the landscape of education and democratised the research process for educators and researchers, speakers said at a training programme held at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).

"Artificial intelligence has democratised research. Everyone can now have a research agent," said Dr Nafees Mansoor, Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Director of the Office of Faculty Research (OFR) at ULAB.

He made the remarks at the concluding session of a four-day faculty development training programme on AI in Teaching at the ULAB campus in Dhaka on Thursday.

The programme was organised by the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) in collaboration with the Office of Faculty Research.

The final session, facilitated by Dr Mansoor, explored the transformative role of AI in academic research. He demonstrated how AI can serve as a powerful "research co-pilot" throughout the scholarly process, making advanced research tools more accessible to educators.

Participants were introduced to AI research toolkits and practical applications of AI in manuscript drafting, literature review, idea generation and research organisation.

Through demonstrations and interactive discussions, the session highlighted strategies for integrating AI responsibly into research workflows while upholding academic integrity and critical thinking.

The completion of the four-day programme reflects ULAB's continued commitment to equipping faculty members with emerging digital competencies and promoting innovative, technology-enhanced teaching and research practices.
