Boy, 14, charged with 2nd-degree murder in death of Peyton Flett in Prince Albert

Flett, also 14, was reported missing June 30, found dead Aug. 13

Police have charged a 14-year-old boy with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a teen girl who went missing this summer in Prince Albert.

The boy, who was charged Thursday, can't be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He’s scheduled to appear in Prince Albert provincial court on Friday.

Peyton Flett, who was also 14, was reported missing on June 30.

After extensive search efforts by the city’s public works and fire departments, as well as Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, her body was found on Aug. 13 in a wooded area of Prince Albert, near the 300 block of 40th Street East.

Family, friends and community members held a vigil in her honour on the day that should have been her 15th birthday.

Her obituary described her as “kind and gentle-natured, yet wonderfully outspoken and independent.”

Flett’s mother, Danica Moore, shared fond memories of her daughter at the memorial.

She said Flett had big dreams to travel to New York and loved to read and play video games with her siblings.
