Buildings evacuated due to unstable crane on Dutch Village Road
Public advised to stay away while mechanical issue with crane is repaired
First responders are asking the public to stay away from Dutch Village Road and Alma Crescent in Halifax because of an unstable crane.
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency told CBC News on Thursday afternoon that a mechanical issue was identified with the crane. They said there are broken bolts where the crane attaches to the tower.
They've shut down the streets around it and have evacuated surrounding buildings over concerns the crane could collapse.
The fire service said crews are waiting for someone to arrive who can make repairs. They anticipate they could be there for several hours.
