Construction worker killed on Trans-Canada Highway near Fredericton
Worker with Northern Construction killed early Thursday morning
A construction worker was killed Thursday on the Trans-Canada Highway, WorkSafeNB confirmed.
A worker with Northern Construction was struck by a vehicle and killed at about 6:15 a.m., WorkSafeNB spokesperson Lynn Meahan-Carson.
Meahan-Carson declined an interview request, saying the investigation was still going on, so no other details could be provided.
WorkSafe did not provide the victim's gender, hometown, age or location of the collision.
But the New Brunswick RCMP posted at 7:10 a.m. that the eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway in Burton, a 30-kilometre drive southeast of Fredericton, were closed because of a collision. They lanes later reopened.
CBC News has asked to speak with the RCMP.
A receptionist at Northern Construction said an interview would likely not be possible Thursday.
CBC News also requested an interview with MRDC, which operates that section of highway.
The website for Northern Construction says the company is based in Grand Falls and operates throughout the Maritimes.
