‘Deeply misled’: Labor’s tech tax could cause job losses at Nine, News

The Albanese government’s revised plan to tax technology giants that refuse to pay publishers could inadvertently cause major cuts in funding and job losses at Australia’s two biggest commercial news companies, News Corporation and Nine Entertainment.

The Albanese government on Monday announced a raft of changes to its News Bargaining Incentive – which incentivises the likes of Google, Microsoft and Meta to pay for the news content on their platforms – that include increasing a levy to 2.5 per cent but restricting it to revenue made from digital advertising.
