Eighth Round of China

He Yadong, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce, said at a regular press conference on September 24 that Chinese and US economic and trade teams recently held their eighth round of economic and trade consultations in New York, reaching consensus on multiple issues and holding their first dialogue on artificial intelligence under the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism.

He Yadong said this round of consultations was guided by the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, adhering to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. The two sides engaged in candid, in-depth, and constructive exchanges on economic and trade issues of mutual concern, including implementing existing consultation consensus, reciprocal tariff reduction arrangements, establishing trade and investment councils, and extending the joint arrangement for economic and trade consultations in Kuala Lumpur.

He revealed that Vice Premier He Lifeng and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, serving as the respective lead representatives for China and the United States, held their first dialogue on artificial intelligence under the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism.

China's Ministry of Commerce stated that going forward, China will maintain close communication with the United States on follow-up work under the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism.
