Epson Elevates Projection Storytelling at Singapore Night Festival
Epson has been named the Official Technology Partner for the Singapore Night Festival (SNF) 2026, powering three of the festival’s most prominent projection mapping installations with its high-brightness visual technology. As SNF gears up to welcome over one million visitors across its 17-installation line-up this year, the collaboration underlines a joint vision to strengthen Singapore’s position as a regional platform for creative innovation, talent development and cultural exchange.
Selected as a key industry partner following recommendations by projection mapping artists, Epson’s involvement builds on its track record of supporting digital media arts in the region – including the ALIGHT Across the Sea collaborative artwork at the inaugural ALIGHT Conference in 2025.
Powering this year’s installations are Epson’s flagship EB-L30000U projectors, which deliver 30,000 lumens of high-brightness performance. These projector units will also bring vivid narratives to heritage venues across Singapore, including CHIJMES Hall and The Cathay, which are serving as projection canvases for the first time.
Transforming The Cathay: A Platform for Southeast Asia’s Emerging Artists
The Cathay is an iconic cultural landmark, historically linked to Singapore’s golden age of cinema. At this year’s SNF, the venue is hosting the inaugural MALAM Projection Mapping Competition in partnership with Epson. Organised to support creative industries in our region, the competition invited artists, students and collectives across Southeast Asia to reimagine the facade in line with this year’s theme, “Myths and Legends”.
Out of nearly 50 regional submissions, the top 20 entries will be projected onto The Cathay from 21 to 28 August 2026 (7:30 PM to 11:00 PM Sunday to Thursday, and until 12:00 AM Friday and Saturday).
The competition judging panel features industry leaders, including Qazim Karim (Festival Director, SNF), Michiyuki Ishita (Founder, One Minute Projection Mapping) and Fadjar Kuria (Co-Founder, The Fox, The Folks), alongside representatives from The Cathay and Epson. Ms Tan May Lin, Regional Director, Visual Products at Epson Southeast Asia, will represent Epson on the judging panel.
Following on-site judging on 28 August, the final top five winning entries – spanning the Grand Prize, 2nd Prize, 3rd Prize, Best Animation and Best Story – will continue to be showcased through the remainder of the festival, ending on 5 September 2026.
Immersive Experiences Across the Precinct
Beyond The Cathay, Epson’s high-performance projectors are bringing two other major festival sites to life:
Between Stories by Clare Chong (CHIJMES Hall): As Singapore’s first indoor projection mapping experience within CHIJMES Hall, this installation reimagines the building’s historic interior through an evolving tapestry of light, sound, oral histories and local poetry. Visitors can also enjoy ticketed feature performances by Chong herself, running in three sessions on 3 and 4 September.
Night Lights: Traces by Isaiah Cacnio (SMU Campus Green): Following Cacnio’s participation in ALIGHT 2025, this new commission explores shared Southeast Asian maritime heritage, linguistic links between Tagalog and Bahasa Melayu, and the undeciphered scripts of the Singapore Stone.
The collaboration underscores Epson’s mission to power the future of digital art with HeritageSG – transforming the iconic Bras Basah.Bugis district into a dynamic springboard for Asian creatives to innovate and showcase their vision globally.
Qazim Karim, Festival Director, Singapore Night Festival, said: “We are delighted to partner with Epson to expand the creative and technological possibilities of the Singapore Night Festival. This partnership goes beyond supporting this year’s installations. It helps strengthen capability development within the heritage and cultural sector, while giving artists a platform to reach wider audiences in Singapore and across the region. Together, we hope to position the festival as a catalyst for creativity, talent development and innovation, and to reinforce Bras Basah.Bugis’ role as Singapore’s Creative District, where new ideas, artistic collaborations and cultural experiences come to life.”
Tan May Lin, Regional Director, Visual Products at Epson Southeast Asia, added: “Beyond delivering high-brightness projection technology, Epson is dedicated to empowering artists and enriching the communities around us. Supporting the Singapore Night Festival and the inaugural MALAM competition reflects our ongoing focus on uniting technical execution with artistic vision. By transforming iconic heritage spaces into dynamic storytelling canvases, we hope to elevate the work of emerging and established regional talent, inspire audiences and support the long-term growth of Southeast Asia’s digital arts ecosystem.”
The Singapore Night Festival 2026 runs across the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct, featuring nightly projection showcases, performances and cultural experiences from 21 August to 5 September 2026.
