Ex-IAS officer Divya Mittal enters politics, to begin political journey from Uttar Pradesh

Former IAS officer Divya Mittal who quit civil services after 13-long years has announced political plunge in a video message on Tuesday. Mittal, was serving as Deoria district magistrate when she resigned.

The ex-civil servant announced her entry into politics on X.

In a post on X, Mittal wrote in Hindi, "A few days ago, I resigned from the IAS and left many questions in your mind. I've said my piece in this video."

In the over 9-minute video Mittal revealed the what she has decided and why. What led to her decision of entering politics.

Mittal said her experience showed that government approvals and funding alone do not always translate into solutions on the ground. She said many people struggle to make their concerns heard, while some issues remain unresolved despite reaching the government.

“I realised that many problems of the public do not get resolved even when approvals, funds and

provisions are in place,” she said.

She recalled a remote village where residents had requested a school with classes beyond Class V. Although she approved the proposal, construction had still not begun years later.

“There are people whose voices do not reach the government, and even when they do, their problems remain unheard, she added.

According to Mittal, the delay was not due to a shortage of funds or regulatory hurdles, but a lack of intent to implement the decision.

Originally from Rewari in Haryana, Mittal holds a BTech degree from IIT Delhi and an MBA from IIM Bangalore. After working in London following her MBA, she decided to prepare for the UPSC examination.

She cleared the civil services examination in her second attempt in 2013, securing the 68th rank and joining the IAS. In her first attempt in 2012, she had qualified for the IPS.

Mittal served as district magistrate of Sant Kabir Nagar, Mirzapur and Deoria before being posted as special secretary in UP govt's revenue department.
