France to face Spain in World Cup semi
France will face Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals. The tie will be held on Bastille Day – Tuesday, July 14 – at Arlington’s AT&T Stadium at 9pm CET. France qualified for the World Cup Final 4 courtesy of their dominant 2-0 win against Morocco. La Roja have defeated The Red Devils in the quarter-final stage on Friday night at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium.
PSG’s Fabian Ruiz have opened the scoring at the half-hour mark for Spain before Charles de Ketelaere restored parity. The Atalanta Bergamo striker became the first player to score against the Spaniards in this World Cup. Like he did against Portugal in the previous round, Mikel Merino scorred the winner in the dying minutes, following a blunder from Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
For the third tournament in a row, France and Spain meet again in the semi-finals. On their way to winning the 2024 UEFA Euros, the Spaniards sealed a 2-1 comeback win against Les Bleus with Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo cancelling out Randal Kolo Muani’s opener in Munich. The last time they faced each other, both teams served up a nine-goal UEFA Nations League classic that Spain eventually won (5-4).
