Here's what's open and closed in Ottawa this Thanksgiving

Many changes Monday, Oct. 12, including waste pickup and transit

Autumn is well underway and it's Thanksgiving time again across Canada.

The harvest celebration falls on the second Monday of October, Oct. 12 in 2026.

Here's a partial list of holiday opening hours and closures in Ottawa. It's best to check directly with any businesses or services ahead of time.

Stores in certain areas of the city including the Glebe and ByWard Market can open on holidays under the province's Retail Business Holidays Act.

Most grocery stores in the city will be closed Monday, but some in those designated areas will remain open.

Some stores may have different hours on Sunday and Monday.

Beer Store and LCBO locations will be closed.

Alcohol may be available at rural LCBO convenience outlets and at participating grocery stores that are open Monday.

Bayshore, Place d'Orléans and St. Laurent malls will be closed. The Rideau Centre will be open, but individual store hours may vary.

The National Gallery of Canada and the agriculture, aviation, history, nature, science and war museums will be open.

The Ottawa Art Gallery and Diefenbunker will be closed.

All Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed.

All municipal child-care centres will be closed.

Many recreation facilities are closed, though some will be open on modified schedules.

Monday is a bank holiday and many branches are closed. There may be access to some ATMs.
