Is Dhanush entering politics? Actor's latest speech sparks fresh speculation

Actor-director Dhanush has once again sparked speculation about a possible political entry after urging his fans to use their collective strength for public welfare instead of limiting their activities to film-related events.

Speaking at a blood donation camp organised by his fan clubs on Sunday, Dhanush said the unity among his supporters should be channelled into serving society and helping those in need.

"So many people are gathered in one place. There's a great power in this kind of unity. We need to give that unity a purpose. Beyond just audio launches and meetups, we need to engage in even more welfare activities. Understand the needs of the people in your area, the families living around you and help them in whatever way possible. Do whatever help you can for them. I need to feel even prouder of you. I believe you will do it," he said.

Political buzz after viral speech

Clips of the speech quickly went viral on social media, prompting many users to speculate that Dhanush could be preparing for a political innings, drawing comparisons with actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay.

One X user wrote, "Looks like the queue for politics is getting longer. Everyone seems to think, 'If Thalapathy Vijay entered politics, why not me?'" Another commented that the speech resembled Vijay's address at the Leo audio launch before he formally entered politics. A third user said it appeared Dhanush could launch a political party sooner than expected.

Addresses National Award criticism

During the event, Dhanush also responded to criticism over his wins at the National Film Awards, acknowledging that there were "definitely better" Tamil films than his directorial Raayan in 2024.

However, he urged audiences to look at the bigger picture and celebrate the achievement of a Tamil actor winning two National Awards in the same year.

Dhanush received a Special Mention for his performance in Captain Miller, while Raayan won the National Award for Best Tamil Film. While his recognition for Captain Miller generated mixed reactions online, Raayan's victory drew criticism from some viewers who argued that other Tamil films were more deserving of the honour.
