Jensen Huang Advises Former Nvidia Staff Launching AI Startups

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has delivered blunt feedback, personal advice, and strategic guidance to former employees leaving the semiconductor giant to establish their own technology startups, according to reports by Business Insider.

Former Nvidia robotics developers David Hoeller and Nikita Rudin stepped down from the firm in 2024 to create their own startup. While calling into a conference from Munich, Huang accepted their departure but strongly criticized their initial choice for a company name, Checkpoint.

"He told us that the name was bad and that we had to change it," said Nikita Rudin, Co-Founder of Flexion Robotics.

The founders took the advice and rebranded the venture to Flexion Robotics. Based in Zurich, the company has secured over $57 million in funding, expanded into San Francisco, and received investment backing from Nvidia itself.

Former employee Bing Xu experienced a separate departure process after resigning to establish INT21, an artificial intelligence startup specializing in chip software. Huang spent two hours in a meeting with Xu and other executives attempting to convince him to stay at Nvidia, while highlighting communication as Xu's primary development area.

Xu noted that Huang's direct critique marked the most candid assessment he had received in a decade, explaining that he often incorrectly assumed colleagues possessed identical technical background context. Huang also urged Xu to take time off to address personal health issues, including high blood pressure, prior to beginning his new venture.
